Hotels in Paris: prices, timing and areas
Paris is one of the most visited destinations in Europe, with a huge supply of rooms and a wide spread of prices. Rooms in Parisian hotels tend to be small, which is normal here, and the rate of the same place can shift with the month and the day of the week. Guests stay about four nights on average and move between the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Montmartre, getting around by Metro and Velib bikes. The gap between February and June is noticeable. This list has 13 022 properties, from a hostel bed to five stars near the Champs-Elysees. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Paris: the month, the day of the week and the district.
When to book a stay in Paris for less
Paris is cheapest outside the summer season. February is usually the bottom of the market, about 13 percent below the yearly average, when the city is quieter. June is the priciest, at the start of high summer, when rates climb by roughly a third against the rest of the year. The mild shoulder months, March to May and September to November, pair reasonable prices with smaller crowds. The arrival day matters too: midweek is cheapest, Thursday and Friday, while the weekend and the start of the week run higher. For a regular trip it pays to book about three months ahead, when the lowest rates tend to show up.
What a stay costs by property type
Paris has one of the widest price ranges in Europe, so a hostel bed and five stars in the centre are worlds apart. The cheapest sleep is in hostels and budget rooms on the edges; you pay the most for luxury in the heart of the city. Below are indicative nightly rates.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Hostel bed | from approx. EUR 59 |
| Budget room or basic property | from approx. EUR 44 |
| Mid-range hotel | from approx. EUR 139 |
| Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 213 |
| Luxury hotel | from approx. EUR 322 |

What a stay costs by district
In Paris the location shapes the price too. The cheapest sleep is on the northern edges; the priciest is on the Left Bank near the most fashionable streets. Below are average nightly rates in a few popular areas.
| District | Average price per night (from) |
| Clignancourt (cheapest) | from approx. EUR 109 |
| Around Gare du Nord station | from approx. EUR 117 |
| Around Gare de Lyon station | from approx. EUR 127 |
| Around the Eiffel Tower | from approx. EUR 213 |
| Le Marais (most popular) | from approx. EUR 329 |
| Saint-Germain-des-Pres (priciest) | from approx. EUR 295 |
Clignancourt in the north runs about 40 percent below the city average, while Saint-Germain-des-Pres is about 38 percent above it. With the dense Metro network, a stay in a cheaper district is still convenient.
Which stay in Paris suits whom
- First time in Paris. The 1st arrondissement by the Louvre and the Tuileries gardens, or near the Eiffel Tower, is the easiest base. From here the main landmarks are a walk away and Metro stations are close.
- For families. Family rooms and hotels by Disneyland Paris, often with a shuttle to the park. Many are cheaper than the hotels inside the park itself.
- For couples. Montmartre around the Sacre-Coeur basilica, a charming area made for walking. It is a short way in the evening to the cabarets and restaurants.
- For young travellers. Montparnasse and the hostels in the 14th arrondissement, affordable and close to nightlife. A good base when price and evenings out matter most.
- With breakfast. Many Paris hotels include a buffet or coffee in the rate, which helps you set off early for sightseeing. Handy with a tight day plan.
- Near the airport. Paris is served by three airports, Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais. Hotels around them, especially at CDG, suit an early flight and often offer flexible cancellation.

When Paris costs more
Most tourists arrive in summer and that is the priciest time, peaking in June. Prices also rise around big events such as the June Fete de la Musique or the summer jazz festival, when the city fills with open-air concerts. If you want a lower rate and smaller crowds, aim for the shoulder months in spring or autumn.
